ok well i noticed my speakers werent really hittin today, so i get in my trunk and see the power wire has slipped out so i accidently touched it to the amp and it sparked a little bit, no big deal i thought, i went and unhooked the power wire at the battery and hooked it back up to the amp, so when i reconnected everything and put the power wire back onto the battery and turned my system on and my 12's sounded terrible, the were making a noise that almost sounded like they were rattling. i turned my car off and made sure everything was hooked up right and it was, then when i turned my car back on they were not hitting at all.

What did I do??? are my speakers blown??, or is my amp??? or both??

please help me out

Zach

can anyone help,do i just need new speakers and a new amp or what??? i just wanna know if this othe SH** is fried

maybe an 1100D and 2 type R's???

Zach

its a pioneer g,-5100t.

no smoke, and no bad smell, my only question is, if the amp was fried why did the speakers barely work until i turned the car off and restarted it???

could that happen??? and for the record the car waasnt on when i touched the wire to the amp

thanks

The amp could have only partially cooked so it could still partially work.

If the power wire you arced is connected directly to the battery (like I assume it is) then the car doesn't have to be on for it to carry current. Battery doesn't even have to be in the car to hold juice.

Sometimes an amp will continue to work in a crippled state until it ultimately fails completely, it all depends on what components on the circuit board are fried.

Edit- Prowler beat me.

they've already mentioned this but the car ON/ACC only sends power through the REM wire...the 12v is always on. I have one amp that stores up enough juice to spark inserting a fuse on the d-block an hour after the battery is out.
