Thomas Jefferson’s writings have ranged from many things to the “Declaration of Independence” to “Notes on the State of Virginia.” I plan to discuss Jefferson’s writings as a reflection of the ideas of natural rights, the American as a “New Adam,” the environment as a controlling force in life, and the virtues of the agrarian lifestyle. This discussion will go through a number of Jefferson’s writings and use direct quotations from the text to validate my point.

We can first see Jefferson’s writings as a reflection of natural rights in the Declaration of Independence. About 9 lines down Jefferson says ,”…they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” These are obviously the natural rights that Jefferson stresses almost as if he is arguing a case in the court of law. This is also the prologue of what is to come later on in the Declaration of Independence when he starts to list the faults and errors the English government has committed against the new Americans.

Next we can find evidence of Jefferson’s writings as a reflection of the idea of the American as a “new Adam,” free of the burdens of European institutions and the European Past. The first example comes in Notes on the State of Virginia ,”They are not more disturbed with religious dissensions. On the contrary, their harmony is unparalleled, and can be ascribed to nothing but their unbounded tolerance, because there is no other circumstance in which they differ from every nation on earth.” This talks about how Americans as a “new Adam” are all unified together and do not quarrel over religion like the European countries of the past.

this was just a quick thing i wrote in about 10 minutes ...

two lines in and my head hurts... dude, reread it slowly and rewrite it... I can write a better paper on the specifics of macroeconomics in 5 minutes... you should be able to at least write a paper that reads through without getting //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif... if you were screwed by public education then maybe some time spent in the writing lab 1 on 1 would be better than posting it in car audio forums...
