Help with these subs or recommendations.

I'm currently using a SPL FX2-2600 AMP (http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9171_SPL+FX2-2600.html)

I'm barely started getting into car audio and I'm loving it. Although I'm lacking of experience I'm a person who's willing to struggle to learn. After High School I plan on getting in the technology field (Car Audio) or computers.

I currently have these single voice coil subs running a 4 ohm load I believe (still learning the terms) which is the + and - into channel 1 of my amplifier, and the other + / - from the other sub into the second and final channel. I wanted to know if you guys think the subs can take an "2ohm load" which would be +,+ in one channel, while -,-'s go on the other channel (I believe).

My amp's specs say "Bridged, @ 4 ohms: 1080 watts x 1 chan.", but I noticed that my subs supposedly only take a maximum of 1000 watts, I don't know how to exactly wire that but I'm willing to learn if somebody has the time to guide me with the steps and explain to me things as we go along.

My dad says that the way my subs are currently set up, they're not working to their full potential but I wouldn't like to blow them up by messing around with the wiring if I don't know how to. My dad used to like car audio when he was around my age, but doesn't know much about it either. I'm willing to spend time or perhaps money, if somebody tries helping me get these subs running a little harder.Thank you for all of your time, I really appreciate your help.

I believe I'm using 4 gauge wires for both ground / power, should that be fixed? [i can't put in thick wires inside my amp]

are your subs single or dual voice coil? forget MAX and only read the RMS ratings. your subs are rated at 400rms and that amp can do 450 x 2 @ 4ohm or 540 x 2 @ 2ohm. either way you are giving them the most you can and probably the most they can take safely.

you already are getting the most out of your amp. the only possibly thing you could do would be to buy a pair of dvc 4ohm subs but you would only gain 90rms per sub - it's not worth it.
