Help with the car audio setup

Hello,

I bought Ford Figo which comes with a HU and 4 speakers. I am trying to setup amp. and sub-woofer in the car.

Now the equipment I have is following:

1 x Stock Ford Audio Head Unit (No Preouts)

1 x Bull Audio 4.2 4 channel amp. (Bull Audio)

1 x id CTX 124 Sub-woofer (Image Dynamics USA)

4 x id 5 by 7 speakers (Image Dynamics USA)

1 x Genesis Hi-Low Converter (Series 3 High Level Adapter)

Now the installer says that the above said Genesis Hi-Low converter is necessary, where as I have checked on several web sites etc. and all are recommending that eventually the Hi-low converter is useless hence it is better to get a new HU with pre-outs.

I just want to know if this hi-low converter is really required in order to setup amp and sub system ?

If it was me to be honest I would get a decent head unit and dash kit for it.. and do it right.. I've never been a fan of those converters, the older amps with High level in were ok to run off stock equipment but the new amps that do not come with are meant to run off pre-outs..

I've tried rigging something up in my wife's old Hundai she had with a converter, it worked.. but the sound was awful.. there is nothing like running aftermarket HU with RCA pre-outs to your amps..

If you wanna go for it, go for it,... but if it was my choice, I'd be opting for a new HU, you'll be more happy with the sound, setup and the bonus features and SQ you can get with them..

Stock is just that.. Stock.. and your Head Unit is the most important part of the system as it determines the Sound Quality and your amps just reproduce what its given..

Agreed.

Using the converter will work but that stock HU was built to be as cheap as possible while still producing sound. You will get much better sound quality by upgrading to even a cheap aftermarket HU.

As stated, it will work, but the best option is a new headunit. If you already bought the parts, Id go ahead and let him install it. If you havent bought it yet, Id try and get a head unit upgrade.
