help with subs

Hi every one. I have been looking around on this forum for a couple of weeks now and have decided to join. this is a real cool forum i have learned alot from here.

Well any way let me get to the point, My brother gave me two type r 12's 1242d dvc 4 ohm to be exact they are the 2005 model, but what i was wondering is how many rms watts can these things actually take. I have been searching for a few days and i cant find a straight answear. the reasion i am asking is because i have a hifonics bx1500d amp the rms on one ohm is 1500 but the rms on 4 ohm is only 400. so i am stuck on what to do any sugestions?

oh and they are in a ported box and i think the rms on both is 500 a peice

Well 2 dual 4 ohm speakers gives you a final load of 1 ohm which is what you want and you and that would give your subs 750 a piece which is perfect. Hifonics has known to be a bit overrated so they are seeing about 600 per sub which is fine for those subs

ok great so even if the amp was at about 1500 watts it will not danger the subs.

yea because at the one ohm load that is being placed on the amp it will do 1500 and then divide that between the two type r's and you're golden
