hey guys, I got a problem with one of my L7's, while riding around today it just quit. No sound nothing comes out of it. Its like almost 12AM central time here, I got back from my girls house about 11:15 went out there, checked the amp(JBL has two sets of outputs even though it is mono) and both of the outputs still work. Pulled the sub, found that the speaker wire was still connected but noticed that the tiny wire that runs from one of the speaker terminals into the speaker or onto the voice coil maybe, was separated from where it orginally was. Some way or anohter this wire broke off, I tried connecting it back with electric tape with no success. Is this something I can fix or do I need to go get it swapped out? I was thinking maybe I could fix it and not have to go over to the dealer tomorrow but what I thought would solve the problem didn't....now to find my receipt and go get it fixed tomorrow I guess. I sure hope they have some L7 12 D2's because one just doesn't hit as hard as two!

You should be abke to swap that out, scince the wire came undone. I consider that a manufactor deffect, and in most cases that will be replaced at no cost to you. If they say no then let your voice be heard. But I think they will replace it.

Yea they replaced it, he said it was probably from overexcursion, but I dont see how that could happen with only 600 watts to a sub with a 750RMS and 1500 watt peak. Anyways they didn't give me any trouble, I just walked in with the sub in the original box, showed my receipt and he handed me a new L7. Sure beats the crap out of having to deal with online dealers and shipping and waiting and waiting more! I recommend buying anything you think might break from a dealer and paying close to retail. Its worth it for the warranty purposes.

Please forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you don't need the maximum RMS power going to your subwoofer to reach your maximum XMAX.

nope you dont..

you had your tinsel lead break away..

as long as you werent abusing it, they should warranty it for you every time, because you arent doing anything to it that the company says isnt ok... that makes it Their fault, lol.

I already have a new woofer now, but in the future could I sauter the wire back together and then it work again? Just in case it happens after my warranty is up?

XMAX=SPL correct? If so then why power a sub with its peak for a competition if u can reach XMAX with alot less power? What does all that extra power do?

Not exactly...the RFL does not have a very impressive XMAX #, yet it is one of the best SPL subs...it is just not very linear.
