Help With Porting a Diamond D6 12"

Hey there,

As the title says I am looking to port my 12" Diamond D6D2 sub. I am going for great sq with nice balance and low extension so huge spl is NOT my goal. I have looked at Diamonds recommended enclosure of 1.25 @40hz and the 40hz tuning freq. seems way too high to me. I want to go lower than that.

Unfortunately, Diamonds website is down right now (maybe for good?) so you won't be able to see the specs on the woofer or their recommended enclosure. I did save a .pdf of the D6's specs on my computer a while ago so that is what i am going off of.

This is going in my 2005 Trailblazer and will be run off of an old school Directed 1100d wired to a 1 ohm load.

Those of you that have ported a D6 12": What was your enclosure and how did you like it?

Hmmm..1.25cf is small for a 12"

I'd be shooting for more towards 2cf tuned to like 28Hz. (or similar)

I

Always have tuned 30Hz and lower //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i know everybody says stay away from pre-fab boxes but...........audio enhancers makes diamond audio specific boxes, their built well, and sound good...hits the lows well

get the ts parameters and run that ***** on bbp. 1.25 does seems small and since you want sq you may wanna go for 1.8-2 cubes. you can also use areo ports so you can change tuning. i'd recommend 30 and go from there

I was looking at those but I imagine that they are going to be the Diamond spec box which is what I am trying to stay away from. I did read somewhere that the frequency of an enclosure changes as the internals of a motor heat up and the tuning freq. becomes 7-8 hz lower than designed. Maybe that is why Diamond tunes it so high?

I did put the sub into Bass Box Pro for a vented enclosure. I must be doing something wrong because it is telling me to put it in a .3 cu ft enclosure tuned to 35 hz. I have used programs like this before and I don't know what I did wrong. I suppose I could have fat fingered something. I made sure that I used the right units of measure ( liters to cu. ft, ect.)

Here are the t/s params:

SPL (dB) 85.5

Z ( ) {series} 4

Re ( ) {series} 3.9

Qms 5.24

Qes .56

Qts .51k

Fs (Hz) 32.4

Vas (L) 12.6

Cms (mm/N) .07

Mms (g) 346

Sd (m2) .049

BL (T*M) 24.2

Xmax (mm) 17.8

Power (W) NOM/MAX 600/1200

Can someone plug those in and see what they get?

Thanks

mine is in around 2.5 cf tuning is at 40ish and it drops off at around 35 and down fast but 35-45 is golden most people think I have 2 12's.

but my fi q15 is getting dropped of fri.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks for the feedback but that still sounds like you are more geared to spl with that setup. I am looking strictly SQ . //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Maybe I should just go sealed. Thats what I have always done though and after hearing enough people on here claim that a ported enclosure can sound just as good or even better than a sealed, I want to give it a shot.

Good luck with your Fi.

I think I may have found the problem. For the d2 version the Vas is listed as 12.6 and for the d4 its listed as 33. The 10" and 15" sizes don't have a huge discrepancy like that between the d2 and d4 versions. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think Vas has absolutely nothing to do with Re except for a maybe a minor variation due to stiffness of the voice coil. (more copper) I am starting to wonder if that is supposed to say 32.6. If I put that in for the Vas, 2.0 cu ft @28 hz looks daym sexy.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

I hope to have ggod luck woth it if it ever gets here the ups site says they picked it up on the 29th but since then no movement?

oh and even though it is tuned high the sq above 30hz is still very good.
