help with my in-line fuse

last week my girlfriend was messing with my car trying to start it --she doesn't know how to start a manual //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif -- and was quickly turning the key on and off.

Anyways... she blew my 60A AGU in-line fuse in the power line that runs from my battery to my amp. Now everytime i try to replace the fuse it just immediately blows again. I tried disconnecting the battery and then putting the fuse in -- but upon connecting the battery back up it just blew again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it is immediately blowing as soon as current passes through it I'd say there is a short to ground somewhere. Check that power cable along its entire length to see if any insulation has been compromised and touching metal somewhere. Barring that I'd suggest there is a problem with the amp possibly.

It's awful hard at times to diagnose something you can't see or lay your hands on. Just having "My fuse keeps blowing - why?" is a bit vague. I understand that your g/f was fighting with the car to get it started but I think likely that is merely a coincidental occurrence rather than a potential cause.

well -- i figured it out -- it was actually the connection between my amp and power wire- turns out it was really loose. So that mixed with the quick on and off via the GF must have done it.

So now I have a new question. I have an 8G wire and a 12G wire that both run from my battery to my amp and out. The Smaller wire was in tehre when i got my car. I have had both the 12G and the 8G connected before - seemingly without problems. Would doing this be a bad idea in any way you think?

On a side note... I went to two auto part stores and a Radioshack that all had fuses and none of them had a 40A fuse. Does that seem odd to anyone else?
