Help with MTX EBC

Hello, i recently purchased an MTX terminator kit that comes with an amp, 2 12 inch subs, a box etc basically everything a newbie needs to put subs in his car. During the install, while fishing the "EBC" wire, i accidently snagged it and it cut one of the wires inside. I called the place where i bought the subs and they said the wire was just a phone cable with 4 contact points. I bought another cable, hooked it up and the EBC does not work (little light on it doesnt come on and it doesnt do anything). Is there something I am doing wrong? the stupid thing didnt come with zip for instructions so tbh i dont even know exactly what the EBC is supposed to do in plain english (i think adjust bass level). The exact number on the kit that i bought is TNP212D2 if that helps any. Please, anyone with experience with this kit or ones like it give me a shout back. (PS, i am positive that the little EBC thing has 4 contact points as well)
