Help with Ipod and Pioneer player

I have a Pioneer DEH-5800mp cd player and it skips terribly when i am bumpin. so i thougt i would get an ipod to hook up to it so it would stop skipping. i bought an auxilliary audio cable to hook it up and when i play it the volume on my ipod has to be maxed as well as on my cd player and it is very faint.. please help!! thanks
