HELP... with hooking up laptop to older TV.

I'm trying to play some movies i have on my laptop (gateway nx570x) on an older tv. The laptop has s-video and the tv only has component, so i bought a s-video to component (yellow rca) cable. But i can't figure out how to send the video signal out through the s-video port. I've tried using the Windows Mobility Center, but get nowhere. I know the port works because it picks up new LCD monitors with s-video input just fine. I just need help getting the video signal out. Any ideas?

probably need to enable it via your video card. can usually do this via the software that came w/ the video card or doing it through the setup when you boot up your computer.

For one, the yellow RCA is composite video, component video uses 3 seperate RCAs, Red, Green and Blue in color.

Composite = yellow, red, white

Component = red, green, blue

S-video ---> composite

In vista:

right click desktop/personalize

display settings

it should automatically find the T.V. (if turned on and cables are plugged in. If not, mess around a little bit. It'll turn on. Should clone the screen of your laptop.

In XP:

right click desktop/properties

uh...Idk from here..I haven't used XP in over a year.

A lot of older laptops I have used have a seperate Fn key to do what you want. Find the Fn button hold it down and click the corresponding button along the function keys that looks like it is a picture of a monitor. I know this at least works for getting VGA out, should also work for S-Vid I would think. Otherwise I would think you need to go into the video controller. I don't know what windows mobility center is but I would think there is an ATI or Nvidia center, or advanced off of desktop properties might bring you there and enable a second monitor.

well, i've been playing around with it for the past few hours and still have no luck. it recognizes a monitor is there, but is not sending the signal out through the s-video port. And, after doing some research, i found many people are having the same issues with the intel 945 chipset and the s-video port. So to hell with it. i'll just watch the **** movies on the laptop...
