looking into building a nice new computer.... i want one that accepts 2 dual/quad core intel cpus, 4 graphics cards, and 8 sticks of ram

maybe a good new computer case also.....

but mainly i need some ideas on companies... Asus??? soyo??? what else would anyone else suggest.... for gaming

thanks

...... U must be way over ur head. 4 graphics cards? WTF? And no point in gettin 8 sticks of ram if the mobo can accept 2GB sticks of ram (u probably wouldn't need more than 2 anyways). So did u want to run Crossfire or SLI? Also budget?

yah i am ... right now i'm just look for a nice mobo that will do me good in the future... the last time i updated my computer was a long *** time ago...

i got all those ideas mainly from the mac pro cpu... which has those options on there.... so budget... i'd say is around 200$ on the mobo... and willing to spend more... but not over 500.... i'm not sure on mobo prices now, but i think i have an idea about this one... i just need someone to help me find one.... and i don't know what crossfire or SLI is.....

btw thanks for your help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

There are 2 main brands of graphic card makers that are top of the market right now. They each have a kit kinda thing that bridges to video cards together to make like a better performaing single video card (like bridging 2 amplifiers). But they have different technologies and so most motherboards either support one or the other, never both. SLi is Nvidia's verison and Crossfire is Ati's version. I personnaly prefer Sli but thats just cause I love nvidia products. Asus has been known to be one of the best mobo manufactures. http://www.newegg.com gives alot of easiy to search options to find what u want. They don't have the best prices but great customer service. So its ur choice to see if u wanna find a product on there than buy somewhere else or just buy from them.

If you don't know enough about computers to know what SLI and crossfire are, then I wouldn't spend a bunch of money building one yourself.

Also if it's been as long as you say it has since you updated anything, just get rid of your old computer completely and start from scratch.

You're going to need a new motherboard, CPU, RAM, graphics card(s), hard drive(s), optical drive(s), and definitely a new power supply. If you're going to run as high end of a system as it sounds like you want, don't skimp on anything, and be prepared to spend a couple thousand dollars.

Send me a PM I'll help you find some good parts for a solid future-proof system. If you don't feel comfortable building it yourself I could even put it together for you provided you pay shipping...here's my last build

you sound like you're in waaaaaayyyy over your head. do some research!
x2

There is no need for 4 graphic cards ever. Get your self a nice MSI motherboard, x2 2 gig sticks of ram, 2+ ghz intel dual core processor (or if you really wana spend money get a quad core) and a nice Geforce 8800. Make sure the motherboard can accept SLI and will be the same socket as the processor and ram.

so i didn't know ati and nvida ran on different slots... but anyway... i like nvidia more and have a nvidia 5950 ultra (256 mb) and i will probably at first use this graphics card which takes up 2 slots, and later try to get about a gig of video ram

as for memory i'm probably going to upgrade depending on the price... get 4 or 8 gigs of ram

and for the cpu i am trying to do dual cpus and run 2 core 2 duos or maybe quad cores later... because this build isn't all going to be instant unless most of this stuff is cheap... but i know the cpu is going to cost me alot....

then also for some side things, i will be running vista ultimate being that i only paid 30 bucks on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and going to buy a tv tuner and a nice 2.1 sound system for it...

Do some searching and you will find that right now, quad cores are not really good for gaming. A really fast dual core is a better solution. I'm not sure if you were saying 2 physical processors on the board, but you don't need that as well.

Asus, MSI, Tyan (if you still want to go totally into a realm of waste financially) and gigabyte.

It sounds like your not very knowledgeable on PC's I would recommend a fair amount of research on anandtech forums.

Also, http://www.tomshardware.com http://www.anandtech.com and read some the reviews on there. Should help you out.

I hope you have Vista 64-bit or that much ram makes no sense. You hit a ceiling with usable ram if not. High speed 4gb is plenty unless you do cad work or high end design. Sounds like you are about to seriously waste some money.

Look for a good overclocking processor, get quality memory, a great powersupply and a case that will allow for proper cooling (antec p180 is what I am currently running).

2GB of video ram? lol you can't just upgrade your video card memory, you don't just add chips to it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

My recommendations would be get an Nvidia 680i mobo, with 2 x 8800GTX 750mb run them in SLI.

Also, 4GB RAM will be good, but 8GB of RAM is useless. No games use that kind of memory. Unless you're rendering video or some sort of hardcore CAD rendering.

I would also go with Vista-64 bit version if you need that much RAM.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo X6800 3.0G MHz

Memory: 2x 2GB Crucial Ballistix 8500 DDR2

Cooling: Zalman 9700CNPS

Antec Case

Powersupply: Thermaltake Toughpower 750w

good luck, and go check this web site out, these guys are hardcore enthusiasts with alot of Overclocking knowledge. http://www.hardforum.com/index.php

Wow, you must have a lot of money to waste. Spend $3000 now and that pc is worth $1000 in a year:(

Look for SERVER motherboards from Asus, Supermicro, Tyan, Gigabyte and Intel

You gonna be paying a ton for them, but you will have the most kick *** pc on the block if thats what you want

2 cards in SLI is not very useful with Vista. Not to mention overkill for 2X8800GTX. Just pick up one GTX and be happy. Plenty fast for all games out right now. Even bioshock will run that.

I really think your trying for way too much of a pc right now. Go big, but don't go stupid....you won't use all of the power. I'm still running a dual core AMD X2 4400 OC'd to a 4800 with 2gb ram on a raptor 36gb drive and vista ultimate 7900GT KO edition (don't get this card for vista, driver support is awful). No problems running anything and BF2 is at max (even with old drivers)

I have almost the same setup

ASUS A8N-SLI

AMD Athlon 4400+

nVidia 7900GTX 512Mb

2GB G.SKILL RAM

250Gb WD 7200RPM HDD
