Help with amp trigger wire and switch

I hooked up a remote wire with a toggle switch from 12V power to my kenwood amp to remote turn on because the stock headunit does not have one. The amp then does not turn on. help please. the amp turns on when hooked up in another car with an aftermarket head unit remote output. why isnt the toggle switch working? it gives twelve volts when measured at the leads.

There is 12V potential from remote to the amp ground, I am not using the head unit REM out because the stock head unit does not have one. I am trying to create an REM run from the battery (12V) to the REM in on the amp. the wire has a toggle switch on it, which does work because i tested it with a multimeter and got 12V, it just isnt turning the amp on. why? one other thing i read on the wiring diagram is to run the REM wire to the fusbox for switched power...?

There's only 3 possibilities here. Either your remote isn't getting 12v, your power isn't getting 12v, or you have a bad ground. Go get your multimeter and start testing.

So you have

Powering comming from a 12V source,

then to the input side of a Toggle Switch

From output side of a toggle switch

to the remote input on said Amp???

Hopefully, if you are doing stuff like this you have a Voltmeter and a Test Light and are know how to work'em...

1. Take test light verify your source actually has and is suplpying 12V, if it has power move on to the next step.

2. Next test for 12V @ Input side of Toggle, if it has power move on to the next step.

3. Next test for 12V @ Output Side of your Toggle, if it has power move on to the next step.

4. Next test for 12V @ the Remote Input terminal on the Amp, if it now has power you have other issues...

Verify that you have power at the amp.

If you do, does the amp have any lights that come on?

Either way, if your power (remote and supply) is 100% squared away, your amp may be now having Issues...

Other than that, theres not really much else...
