I have 6.5in alpine 610c's in my truck hooked up to a jl audio 300/4 amp and they don't sound right to me. I'm not sure how to explain it but they hurt your ears and not in a good way lol, when I picked up the truck after the shop I stalled it I had to turn my amp gain down to about 1/4 they had it at 1/2 and it was way to loud and it doesn't sound good. I researched what I could and most people say they put their tweets to -3 db with a crossover but my speakers didnt come with a crossover it just has a resistor on the mid speaker apparently. I don't really want to buy cross overs and take apart the doors because that why I got a shop to do it in the first place and now I'm short on money. So here is my question:
1. Is there anything I can do to fix this without buying extra things? Change settings on the amp ( not sure what all the settings do to e honest there's alot on that amp)
2. On the amp there is only a switch between 12db and 24db I have it set to 12 is this what needs to be at -3?
3.is it normal to have to set the gain that low on a speaker amp?
4.could it just be the location of them, they are mounted in the stock location ( the pillars by the windshield)
Thanks in advance!
