help with algebra problem

just cant remember how to do this, someone help lol

need the slope of the line passing through each pair of points or state if its undefined. then indicate whether the line thru the points rises, falls, is horizontal, or is vertical.

question:

passting through (4, -7) and parallel to the line whose equation is 3x + y - 9 = 0

don't u just plug in the 4 for x and -7 for y, so (0,-9) falls

but i just totally made that up cuz i did algebra in 8th grade, sophomore in college now.

I know Y=Mx+b fits somewhere here. I think you have to get that first line in slope intercept form, and then do some shit. This will never be of importance to you in real life so just cheat your way through it.

rewrite 3x + y - 9 = 0 as y = -3x+9

to solve for the equation use:

y=-3*x+b with x and y from the point in the question. Solve for b. done

edit: wait a second they don't want the equation of the line all they want is the slope and if it's upward or downwards. That should be easy: m=-3, falls

this is what the back of the book gives for an answer. basically you have to show work/explain HOW you get the answer
