Help With '04 Dakota Regular Cab Build

I'm trying to help a friend decide what to do with his newly acquired Dodge Dakota. It's a regular cab but there is a 9.75" gap between the front seats. He measured it and he can put a box that's 24" front to back, 9.75" wide and 15" tall. Since the inside measurement of the box would only be 8.25" he is going to have to go with 8's. I was thinking two American Bass 8" Comp woofers or Sundown Audio 8's. He doesn't want to spend more than $125 per sub and would like to keep the total RMS below 1000 to save money on electrical.

So we need ideas for box design, subwoofer ideas and an amp. He mainly listens to rock and alternative music so he's ok with a sealed box which should make things easier. But it we could build a slot port box somehow in that area, he may like that better IMO.

I've searched google trying to find pictures of Regular cab Dakota installs but all I keep finding is extended cab installs, so hopefully someone here has done one or knows someone who has done one that can help us.

Thanks for any help and/or advice you can offer!!

How about two 8" SA8v2's in a slot port tuned to around 38hz upfired in between the seats. Would a box that's 24" x 9.5" x 15" be enough space for 2 of them? And how about running them off of a PPI BK 1800.1D ?

I have a Dodge Ram and converted the console between the front seats into an enclosure, but I was able to fit a single twelve. I have tried 3 different boxes. A quarter wave transmission line tuned to 29 hz, a ported enclosre tuned to 32 hz, and a sealed enclosure .25cu/ft over recommended VAS.

The Quarter Wave transmission line hit 146 db in the kick, and had a smooth response between 22hz and 54 hz. Above 54 hz had a huge drop off, one of the drawbacks to using quarter wave.

The ported only hit 138 db in the kick, and had a smooth response between 36 hz and 95 hz, but had a peak around 68 I couldn't EQ out. But a different design could possibly solve it.

The sealed enclosure is not loud at all, but it sounds great. The problem with an enclosure in the center console, is trying to get the wave to propagate out and be loud at short distances(since it is right beside you). The only enclosure I have built that solved this problem is Sub facing down and if you have a port, point it the same direction as the sub.

Just some stuff my old ass has done over time. Since the cabs are so alike, but the dakota is smaller, some of this information cold turn out to be useful.

Hope it helps!
