ok so while driving today listening to music, all of a sudden my bass stop working.. i check my knob thing (hifonics) and the blue light isnt glowing and neither is the red dot (protect).. dunno if it ever was on in the first place. I didnt install the system myself cuz i am a COMPLETE noob at audio system stuff.. so anybody have any clues what might have gone wrong??? its been fine working for the past 6-7 months.. im gonna head to my audio shop probably sometime this week, but i wanted to ask you guys first to see if u could give me any tips. all i have is a hifonics amp running 2 12" FIQs

check power wire & fuse
x2

Check all fuses, Head unit, power wire for amp, under dash if you have one for the head unit, under hood, in the amp itself. Did you use that bass knob a lot?

If you went *** wild with the remote bass knob you could have been clipping the hell out of your amp and overheated it to the breaking point.

Also check the location of your ground it could have come lose, check the power connection and ground connections to the amp too.

hmm the fuse to the battery seems alright

and my system is hooked up to the stock headunit.. and yeah i did use the base knob a lot. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

ok i just tried turning on my car and as soon as it turned on, the red "protect" light blinked and then shut off.. i have no idea what that means, but wondered if it would give u guys some clues. i dont think any of the connections are loose. My battery died like couple weeks ago, dunno if that has anything to do with it, but thought id tell u guys. but if it was the battery, why would it happen now? not then.

Typical problems that it could be from what you're saying are:

Blown Fuse

Blown Amp

but if it's nothing of that sort, you might have some electrical issues. I'm having a feeling it might be an issue with you're amp. Notice any electrical type burning smell, it's like a pungent smell that makes your nostrils flair. Definitley noticeable, for people unfamiliar with that smell (although it's typical in Car Audio) that usually means either Subs blown or amp is overheating. It is definitley a noticable smell though.

Personally, I feel like you might have blown a resistor or even something more simple like a fuse on your amp.

Since you didn't mention it, did you check the fuse on the amp?

If the gain was set properly useing the bass knob would NOT harm the system at all. It should be set with the knob turned all the way up or it not hooked up at all.

i cant see the fuse, unless i take out the box and i have no idea how to do that since i didnt install it unless the fuse under my hood next to my battery is the amp fuse. i dont think the fuse is the problem tho.. cuz the blue hifonics logo on the amp lights up, but is VERY dim... i think it has to do with something with not enough power or something like that.

If you can see that your "hifonics logo" is lit but dim then you obviously can see if the fuses. They are thin, prong like fuses usually green they do not look like the fuse thats under your hood.

However, if your saying that the logo is lit, then that would indicate the Amp is getting power. If your Amp is getting power, then technically it should be enough power or at least send power to your subs. Yet, you are saying that the subs are not active at all...which would mean they aren't gettin power. So it has to be one of the following factors; electrical failure, wiring problem maybe loose connections , or a problem INTERNALLY in the Amp as I said before.

I really dont feel like it can be your battery, if your battery didn't have enough power it probably wouldn't start. You can start off by trying to give your battery some juice by either jump starting it, or if you can locate a recharger.

If that doesnt work, try disconnecting the subs and trying them in another vehicle with someone who has an Amp that you can wire it up right quick. That could eliminate if it is the subs. Then you can try the same thing with your Amp on another set of subs in a different vehicle.

Now it becomes a process of elimination, unless of course you just take it to a local shop and have them figure it out for you.

im just gonna take it to my shop, cuz i have no idea where to locate any of that stuff.. i cant see the amp fuse cuz my amp is attacked to the back of my box, and i can see the logo through the skipass. cant see the sides or anything. Hopefully its some simple problem, cuz i dont feel like spending money atm.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
