Help reading speaker specifications

I'm looking for some speakers for my 1997 Mustang, I am willing to spend around around $50-$100.

I just found some Pyle PLG6.2 speakers on Amazon and I'm worried as they are under $30.

Can you go wrong with the RMS at 120 watts per speaker and a frequency response down to 65?

I have been shopping around and those are the specs I have been looking for in a $50 speaker, normally I wouldn't worry but these are pretty cheap. In the reviews on Amazon a couple people mentioned weak bass, and I'm wondering if there is a way to see that in the specs without actually having to listen to them.

Basically, can you make a somewhat fair judgement on speaker by its RMS, sensitivity and frequency response alone?

I understand that these 6.5" will not fit my 6"x8" hole in my Mustang, but I found a adapter for under $10, but these seem to be deep speakers, so I'm worried that they might not fit.

Thanks for your help!

Save yourself the effort of further searching and get the Kicker KS68 6x8 coaxials. I've installed these and I don't think you'll find better drop-in replacements for that budget. The typical adapter plates you can buy to fit 6.5" speakers are flimsy plastic that will vibrate. There are a hundred options for good 6.5" speakers but I wouldn't put them in if you don't have the tools to make your own from MDF or cutting boards from your favorite department store.

"You get what you pay for."

With Pyle, ur getting shit, which is about all u can expect to get from any set of comps priced at

Even your $50-100 budget is questionable, unless you find a good deal on a dated, used set.

$150-200 will put you in the ballpark on most quality, used comps....on up for quality stuff, new.

Exceptions are out there, of course, but doubt you get lucky for $50-100

What do you think about Audiopipe APT-573?

Apparently they are not a common name but the RMS per speaker is 250 watts.

I would get Kickers or something somewhat name brand but its just hard for me to justify getting 60w over 250w.

Here are the specs:

5" x 7" 3-Way Electroplated PP

Cone Coaxial Car Speaker

500 Watts Power (PMPO) (1000 Watt per Pair)

250 Watts Power (RMS) (500 Watt per Pair)

Frequency Response: 50-21000Hz

Sensitivity: 91 dB

Chrome Plated Tweeter Cover

Mounting Depth: 59mm (2.32")

10 Oz Magnet

Product Condition: Brand New

Part Number: APT-573

Quit looking at the fucking RMS bullshit numbers. Audiopoop is plenty common around here for budget junk. 1. You're not feeding them 250w per speaker, so it doesn't matter. And I doubt they can take that power without distorting majorly. I wouldn't get the Kickers either cus I'd be willing to bet they're heavily over-priced, especially for their performance. And yes, those plastic adapted rings are terrible, but there are people that can make you some adapter rings for a small cost.
What amp do you have to power your speakers?
Here's a couple I'd look at if you're trying to buy new on that miniscule of a budget
CDT Audio COX-622 6.5" Coaxial Speakers - Vertex Audio
Massive Audio LX 6 (LX6) 6-1/2" (6.5") 2-Way Coaxial Car Speakers

@mylows10 is a dealer for CDT and some other good companies and could probably help find you a good affordable set.
Seeing what you've looked at thus far, I'm very concerned as for what you've decided upon up front...

I know you mean well, but it's very irritating when people bash on products without ever using them. The Kicker speakers I quoted can be bought new for $70-99, I HAVE installed them, and they're a good value. If he has a Best Buy nearby he can go pick them up today. They will drop right into the OPs vehicle. It doesn't get any better than that for a newbie.

I agree. Kicker KS speakers are pretty nice for the price IMO. Much better sound than I'd expected. I still have a set of KS coaxs around here somewhere....

And OP, If u quote one more BS rms number I'm gonna slap a toddler!

ahhh. I just saw the name and figured they'd cost like $200 and perform like the Pyles haha. I've owned some and listened to some of their speakers before and wasn't really impressed. But if he could find them for $70 they'd probably produce well enough sound. And like you said, they'd drop right in to fit.
