Help Powering up H/U

I've got a Nakamichi CD400 integrated into a Bose system in my J30 w/ a sosche integrations unit. It was working fine, then I wired some backlit gauges. I wired them into the constant first and they worked fine w/ the H/U. I realized what I did, and rewired them into 12V acc wire. I ended up blowing a fuse. Replaced the fuse, wired it back up and the gauges worked and the H/U didn't. Checked the inline fuse in the constant wire - fine. Checked the H/U on the battery, worked fine. The gauges are getting power so the circuit is fine, as are the grounds b/c the gauges are grounded at the with the H/U. I'm at a loss.

Where should I look next? Any suggestions?

Any chance the gauges are drawing too much power and the H/U is not getting enough?

Check the radio fuse from your cars fuse panel.......

did that already - I blew one and replaced it. It didnt blow again. The H/U still didn't power up though.
Use a test light and connect to the power n check to see if you got ground.....if you got ground then connect test light to the ground source and check to see if you got power to the hu.....then after you got ground and power to the head unit.....MAKE SURE YOUR ANTENNA IS CONNECTED TO YOUR HU!!!! Because Ifinitis and nissans, you must have your antenna connected for ur HU to work....try that.....

Killah, electrical is not my forte. So you may have to explain to me what a test light is. I assume some kind of light wired into the circuit to show whether the circuit is closed?? If so, wouldn't the fact that I get power to the gauges show the same thing as they are wired into the same circuit as the H/U? Also, I do have the antenna hooked up. Thanks for the help.

Use a relay to switch the HU and gauges on rather than directly running both to the ACC lead.
Helo, can you give me a basic run down on the relay you have in mind?

BTW, are you flying choppers in Iraq?

try running your power wires from the Hu to the ignition fuse in the fuse panel.....and make sure your car is running.....when testing the hu.....shiet after that....you said you got power, ground and your antenna is connected....(THERE IS NO WAY THE RADIO NOT POWERING UP)other then that u fried your hu dude........I put in many radios here....because that is my side job.......

Basically it is an electrical switch that uses a low current lead to switch a higher current supply. In your case the ignition lead to your HU would be the switching lead and you would run a separate fused power wire from the battery or fuse panel to be the switched source. While you are back there in the dash, check the inline fuses to your radio.

I normally fly choppers, but that isn't what I'm doing over here. "Flying a desk" pretty well describes my current job.

Got her workin' again. I pulled the gauges and immediately threw them in the trash - way more trouble then they were worth. I guess they were drawing enough power to keep the h/u from powering up (?). I replaced 3 blown fuses (radio, clock and glovebox), unwired the gauges, and rewired the ACC/const/ground after that and it powered right up.

Thanks for the help.

BTW Helo, much respect for what you're doing over there. What branch are you with? I just inteviewed with Army, Marines, and Navy.

Actually they chose to ignore me. Army and Navy gave me interviews, and while interviewing w/ Navy, the Marines asked me to interview with them. Air Force just sent me an informational package and an application. It's okay, I got love, my mom was in the AF.
