Help please!!

I just installed 2 10 inch DC Memphis M class subs in a sealed enclosure ,down firing, in my truck powered by a Memphis 1000D. This drops the ohm level down to 1 so I'm getting about 1100 watts or 550 per sub. With volume it hits REAL muddy and distorts. I feel like the amp is sufficiant. Should I try a different enclosure? Ported? Different subs? I'm also thinking of cutting the holes bigger and going with 2 12's. I listen to the heavier side of music so i do like tight bass but I want to feel it hit hard also. Suggestions please?
