Help please (even though it's been asked 1000 times by others)

I've asked this on a few boards but now I don't even know what to ask anymore because I've gotten Soooo freakin' confused with alllll the different brands out there- BUT here's the deal. I have a 98 Integra I need to get set up. It seems at this point from all the reading I've been doing on forums for the past few weeks - that I need one 12" (and a box) and an amp to go with it so I'd like some really good recommendations and reasons for the recommendations. I have a JVC head unit and on the front stage I have a JL's and they sound pretty good but I can't get them loud enough without distortion. The majority of my sound seems to be coming from the stock rear speakers and they get distorted when I try to turn it up. Sounds like the recommendation is to get rid of those once I get the sub. I like my music loud with plenty of thump but still clear enough to hear the words. I listen to a variety from booty bass to stuff like Linkin Park, Sublime, Hip Hop.....

What would you recommend???? The budget for the sub/box and amp is around $600.

For subs, something like:

1 or 2 Alpine Type R

1 or 2 RE RE's (or SE's)

For the sub amp Id reccomend something like a Kicker KX 600.1 or a JBL 600.1, but its dependent on what sub(s) you choose. One thing you might want to keep in mind when picking a sub is how much power it will require. The more power, the more $ it will cost.

I would get rid of your rear speakers and depending on how much you want to spend, get a pair of components or maybe some CDT braxials or something. Either way they will most likely have to be amped. If you dont want to spend $ on a speaker amp, I would reccomend just picking up some Infinity Kappa's, they are good for the $$. You could power them off the HU

RE XXX 12 and a viper 1200.1 or similar

RL-p 12 and viper 1200.1 or similar

Ascendant audio Avalanch and viper 1200.1 or similar

RE SE and viper 1200.1 or similar

here are some more 2 RLi 10s

2 Atlas's

RE SX

there are alot more. but are you going to build your own box or buying one from somewhere?

there are lots more choices but these are just a few

Edit: you beat me, i hate you all //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

OH and I thought I'd mention that around here the only subs I've really been able to listen to that I liked were JL's and Memphis. I liked the Memphis a little more than the JL although it was kinda hard to tell much difference in the audio room. My JL's are new so I'd hate to have to replace those unless they just really aren't as good as something else might be. They are coax but I do have tweeters (that I just found out yesterday were UNHOOKED at the install place where I got the JL's put in, but they are going to fix that tomorrow....)

WOW, thats a good install place //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
The guy said they have to clip the wires when installing a coax speaker (like I didn't need it anymore?!) .....I was like...uh...............I sure didn't ask for that?! LOL

as for best sound bang for buck I would choose a Rl-P or an Avalanch if any are left, but a Brahma and XXX are nice sounding subs too, just cost a good bit more tha other, an SX gets loud and sounds decent for most music, i used to have an SX and i loved it, now i have an XXX and ilove it too, so you wouldnt go wrong with any of the subs mentioned above

before you do any of this - look for 100x2@4ohm amplifier for your front speakers. running them off your headunit is why they are distorting so much.

then id definatly recommend the soundsplinter RL-P from http://www.soundsplinter.com - and you can prolly find a prefab box that is around 1.5~2 cubic feet sealed, and a nice mono amp that is 2ohm stable - and puts out about 600 watts.

2 channel amp that will work well with your front speakers

mono amp that would work well with a RLP (from same seller as above)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18797&item=5779618168&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

this would be fine - not optimal, but fine - unless you wanna build one yourself...

here is the RLP

get wire at http://www.knukonceptz.com or walmart //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

* Your fronts are distorting because they don't have enough power. Your HU will do less than 20 watts / channel. With bass boost on, they will distort VERY quickly trying to push bass. Like said, a nice 2 channel amp between 50 and 100 watts will suit you nicely.

For bass, I'd recommend going a slightly cheaper route, and saving what's left for a rainy day. I don't know where your funding comes from, but I hear too much about people being in debt to their parents and shit after buying subs.

Right now, in the classfieds, is an Adire Shiva Mk IV. On top of that, Desertheat is selling Aura 10s. The price is a steal either way. Both well worth their price. You can buy a new amp to power them for around $200. Then, buy a nice box from Team Pwnage (InhumanAcura and Moe Lester) for whatever their going price is nowadays. Take account wires and stuff, and you'll still have enough left of that $600 to put towards the next upgrade. (never ending battle, no matter where you start..)

The RL-I and RL-P, along with Ascendant Audio, are all "forum boners". Everyone and their mom wants one, hence they're recommended everywhere.

If your fronts are running of your head unit then I agree with this fella. For sub, I'd say an ascendant audio avalanche http://WWW.ascendantaudio.com I mean $200 for this sub is hard to beat, from what people have said about it. You could also get an ED nine.1 for $350, I believe I read there is a sale or something though so maybe like $325. That would leave you with $75 for a box.

I guess there probably is a bunch of youngsters on these boards and I didn't even think about .....that but I'm a 35 yr old chick who likes to spend my hard earned extra money on the cars (usually on racing but now also for sound) ...I don't have kids so my cars and dogs (I also show dogs) are my kids LOL! Anyway- just so you know I'm not so worried about the $$ part.....I was raised to invest in high quality and not go the cheapo route but of course you gotta set budgets!
