Ok just hooked up a new system tonight, it consist of a AQ HDC3 15 dual 1 ohm sub. amp is a sundown saz-1500d. box i a transmission line box built by stratusrt01. Whenever the bass is in the say 40-50hz region it sounds real mettalic inside the cabin. if i go and open the trunk and listen to the sub it sounds normal. could this be caused by trunk flex??? Also it sounds as if the sub is bottoming out sometimes if its on full tilt, its not popping real loud but a kinda metallic clicking. The sub is moving quite a bit which leads me to believe its bottoming out. Why would a sundown 1500 bottom out this sub? Im not real sure where to set the SSF so i moved it up til it wasnt bottoming out but it kills the output. Anyone can help i would appreciate it!

u sure it's not the trunk lid rattling.....the striker rattling on the hook?

im not sure inside the car the bass has a very metallic sound but with the trunk open the sub sounds normal. any ideas about bottoming out? its only on the low low notes! Also i have a real old eclipse H/U that only has maybe 2 volt preouts, no sub control or nothing so i have to get the gain past halfway for decent output.

also the trunk lid rattles so much its hard to tell, u can sit on it and it will just about throw you off it.

did you set gains with a dmm?

no i set them by ear with the trunk open with my ear right at the sub, only way i do it so i can hear the actual sub
be sure you are not clipping first, then check rattles...the only thing i can think of that would change with the trunk open vs. closed

edit: what about if you roll down windows, does the sound change or sound "metallic"

well the sub never got smelly and the dustcap got maybe a little warm but nothin too bad, it may be clipping but its moving so much that it seems like its bottoming out. the metallic sound doesnt happen on low low bass, just in the upper region. Also it doesnt bottom out all the time just on certain songs. late night tip, and then what, slob on my knob. songs like that.
