Okay so I'm completely new to building a custom ported box for a sub. I always knew it was better just never got into it. I was looking at getting a kicker cvr 12 to put in my car. I have read several posts about there being better non mainstream subs so any suggestions are great. I'm gonna run a mtx amp putting out 300 rms at 2 ohms. I was looking at the sub cause I could get the older model still brand new for like $85 total. If someone knows a sub that meets my requirements that is on that level of money, that would be great. I'm not stuck on main brands. It's just what I was always taught. I know there are better other brands. I just don't know enough about them to get one. So I've been looking at the RE box calculator suggested on here as well as winisd and have came up with a ported design. Here's my hangup: how does the subwoofer I get change the way a box is designed? I haven't seen many posts about what to use on the sub's ts parameters to determine things about the box. I understand the tuning of the port but not how it relates to the sub itself. I was trying to do a relatively small box ~ 2.25 ft^3. I read to use 12-16 in^3 of port size per cube in order to keep the port velocity down to control port noise so I got the main ideas. Can someone explain how designing a box around a certain sub is done? Or does it even matter?
The cvr is am looking at has a Fs of 26.1 Hz which I know is a low frequency. Am I correct that I can tune the box to any frequency I want as long as it is above that? I was looking at doing around 33 Hz on the box for a good middleground of deep bass and spl.
