Help me set my gains and such

When I first got my new subs + amp I was pretty much like "lolz gainzzzz put it to max for moar baazz"

But what exactly does the gain do along with the +/-db ect. How do I tune it perfectly? And I heard the +sub on head units is bad, but is it ok as long as I don't distort them?

u just have to match the volume on your HU an AMP for the right output ...use a DMM and a O-scope ...
