help a noobie out here

I want a sub that will "hit hard"

by that I mean I want to be able to FEEL it. like on a nice hit you can really feel it in your chest. my friend had a RF 15" dvc that (obviously) gave me that hit.

I used to have 2 low end older RF 10"s in my trunk in a generic sealed enclosure with 400 watts goin to em, and they sounded great to me, just about loud enough, but certainly didnt have the HIT like the 15 did. so now I am looking for a new system, and I want to make sure that i will have this "hit"

what am i looking for? SPL? is only a certain size/brand or something going to give me this? what is the technical term for what im looking for? I listen to mostly hip-hop so I BELIEVE that I want to stay away from a strictly SPL sub so that it is still tight and punchy, is this correct?

feel free to mention specific subs, or just let me know what the correct terminology is for what im looking for. The subs are going in the trunk of a mazda protege, and I am getting a JL 1000/1 for 500 bucks to power whatever I end up with.......I would like to keep the sub(s) at or under 500 bucks. Probably multiple 10s or single or multiple 12s....

ED ks possibly would be good in your situation.

just a suggestion....

For the record, that was the most respectable noobie post I have read to date and that immediately makes us all want to help you out.

I had two Alpine Type R 12's in a sealed prefab enclosure that really "hit," believe me. And they sounded reasonably good. Those are less expensive, perhaps $115 per sub, but are worth that expenditure, for sure.

I haven't heard Elemental Audio K's, but these guys all talk about them as being very worth the price.o

I agree bobo w/ what you said about his post. Very nice. I would listen to some setups and decide what is best for you. I can tell you this though.. My Elemental K series 15s "hit" very, very hard. You will not be disappointed of these subs. They are silly loud in a sealed enclosure, and if you want more, you can port, and they will still sound awesome. I haven't heard a brahma, but from what everyone says, and ported brahma would more than satisfy your needs. I would defintately look into the elemental Ks hard if i were you.

Even a sealed Brahma would be nice...

If you want hard hitting bass that you feel in your chest...I would say try a single kicker L715 for 275$ shipped to your doorstep. Will hold the power of the jl audio 1000.1

I have yet to find a 12" that "hit" as hard as my MA Audio XE. People here felt it with 400 wats on it (total RMS) and they were thinking ether 3 10's (like I'd been talking about) or 2 15's. Not 1 12" in a Q*LOGIC ported box. All I know is it slams hard nuff for now...........for now.

thanks for the replies

I wish i could just listen to different setups to see what I like best but I only have one friend with a car stereo and it is a single infinity perfect 12" with 275 watts, sounds great, loud enough, but no punch on the hits, other than that I could go to one car stereo shop where they have yet to complete a sentence without "JL W7" in it, or the other where all their best installs, or at least all the installs I can listen to, are RF. that being said, the high end JL subs are too expensive, and I am automatically biased towards RF from past experience. So im trying to branch out here and consider other options.

Ill look into the brahma and eks.......thx

I think you would like the k series... my ported 3 12s is just pure insanity. Ma audio hits hard?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif :D
