I just got my first car, a 95' Ford Escort with 60k miles. I'm getting it painted and I need a sound system. The radio won't even turn on, so can you guys tell me what I need? Like I want subs but I also want good clarity and I might need to even replace the speakers

Price Range: 500$

First thing would be to look for a good source unit. Then pick up some basic coax replacement speakers. No real need to go crazy. Then see where you are at with budget and purchase wire, amplifier, sub, enclosure that work with your remaining budget.

Are you wanting to buy new or used? Used will open up a lot of options but it is used and the condition can be hard to verify.

Yea, more then likely a fuse failure or something along those lines.
I checked the fuses they were all fine. So what would be causing it to not work and how would I check it? Would I need to go to an autoshop?

If the fuses are fine, in all honesty I would just get an aftermarket radio and wire it up and see if it powers on. If it don't then it would be time to trouble shoot the wiring to see where the issues is.

I was planning on getting a new radio thig anyway. One of those 60$ kenwood ones with the iPod cord. Is it hard to wire it? I have NO car experience or anything, I'm only 16.

yeah, with the correct wiring harness, its just matching the color of wires and crimping some clear caps on them.. legit easy. just take your time! Best of luck! Pro-rabbit will set you straight!

For a 95 escort you will need a "ford stereo removal tool". You can just pry it out if you want, but you may damage the dash.
You will need a wiring harness and that should be it.
Use paperclips. You dont actually need a tool to remove it. It is just a clip on the inside that has to be pushed aside. My first car was a probe and that was what I did to remove mine
