Help Me Out Here Guys

Ok, so if any of you browse the miscellaneous classified section, you will see that I am trying to sell my wife's 2005 Scion tC. Here's my question......If the KBB retail value is $19400, am I asking too much by listing it as $17000 or best offer? Now, everyone is gonna say "new ones go for about that price". And I agree, they do. Provided you put no options on it. Is it my fault the car refuses to lose value? I know new ones are still hard to come by, at least around me, so that is probably what drives the prices of the used ones up in my area. So come on guys. Give me a little insight here. I wanna get this car sold.

Oh, I'm aware of that. But it's also been listed on Autotrader for 2 months now, and I've only had 2 inquiries about it. I might add they were both from illiterate people because one bailed as soon as I said 5 speed, umm, the ad said manual transmission, and the other asked what kind of interior it had, umm, 9 pics, and the ones of the interior clearly show black cloth. I just wanted to get everyone's insight on whether or not you feel I'm off base on the price.

KBB does not define the price, the market does //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

It's just like the appraised value of your home, in up markets the appraised value is much too low while is down markets the appraised value can be too high. Same goes for collectibles (Beckett) too.

It's common sense that if brand - new vehicles go for that price then they won't touch your car unless it's 2k + below it (unless you have a bunch of upgrades). Ask yourself this, would you buy it at that price?

Yeah, I understand that too. But the way I figured out the pricing was to go to KBB, get retail value, which almost made me fall out of my chair because it was more than a new one..and then I went to autotrader and did a 200 mile radius search. My starting price is dead nuts in the middle of all of the listings. Theres cars with more miles and a higher price tag than what I have set. I think if it doesn't sell by the end of next month, I'm gonna list it on eBay with no reserve. Just set the starting bid at the bare minimum I would take for it.

lol, you cant use retail. Thats the lot sticker price, and who pays that?! You want the private party value.

I have an XB and I was suprised by what they are going for used so I posted mine on ebay for shits and giggles (and was considering sellings a little) and I got quite a few replies from people with interest and a few for a little cheaper than what I listed (Liked for 13.5 got some offers for 12.5) and I was really suprised.

This is probably the best car I have ever had in regards to it keeping its value, but I think that is wearing off a little and I think it has a lot to do with what is available and what's not in your area.

Infact there are still dealers here asking like $15k (price of one new) for 2004-2005 used models with 10-30k on them and they move so I dunno.

It sounds like you might have a lot of factory options on your TC, I would suggest getting rid of all the extras and selling them maybe at Scion Life or ebay and getting it back to as stock as normal and dropping the price some.

I traded in my 2004 5-speed with 35k for the 2005 and got $12.5 as a trade in value which I never thought I would get (thought maybe 9k) so if you are going to get a new car I would suggest trying that. They started at offering me 9k and I worked them up to 12.5k for my trade and I was buying another bone stock 2005 so its not like they made anything on options and just got me there.

Yeah, I can't really take off any of the things I have on the car. Exhaust, well kinda need it, spoiler, LED lights inside. Pretty much the only removeable option we got was floor mats! everything else will leave some sort of damage behind.

I just talked to the wife, and we're gonna put it up on eBay. Figure if I start the bidding at the lowest amount I'll take for the car, with no reserve, I'll be ok.
