My car:

I don't know much about car audio. But what I do know is that I need BASS! I already have a deck (pioneer) and my factory mids and highs are decent (my car came with a premium sound package). All that's left to complete the system is a pair of nice subwoofers, amp, and wiring kit.

I want 12's. I've already had 8's and 10's. They're just not up to the task. I'm after that deep low bass. However, I won't have much room. I will be building custom boxes that will fit behind the seats. They should be around 1 cubic feet per sub. Maximum mounting depth is going to be limited to less than 6inches. I simply don't have much room.

My budget's ~$400 for subs, amp, and wiring kit. Looking to get around 500rms in the cabin. Is this possible?

What should I get?

4 ga. wiring kit + shipping + rca's = $70

With the remaining 430, you have ALOT of options.

If you only seek 500W, you have the opportunity to get some nice components for your sub level, especially if you don't mind buying used equipment.

Here is a list of online (underground) companies and others that you may or may not have heard of.

Woofer(s):

Stereo Integrity - look at the BM's. There are some for sale for $150 each in the classifieds.

Fi Car Audio - There are several options available from this vendor. Check them out at ficaraudio.com.

Elemental Designs - I've heard mixed reviews about their stuff. Some people swear by it, others hate it.

Amps:

Kicker

Orion

Memphis

JL

Elemental Designs

Sorry I'm in class now, and I need to pay attention. There are much better choices for amps, but have never looked for a 500W, so I don't have much experience.

Just go read reviews in the reviews section for more ideas. Also check out the classifieds if for nothing more than finding names and ideas.

It'd probably be easier to find a 1000watt rms amp. They are more common and probably not that much different in price.

Kicker makes a zx750.1 (750watt that does more like 850watt) that's pretty nice.

hmmmm, thinking about this.

AMP: Profile ap2000 (~$150)

SUBS: x2 ALPINE SWS-1243D 12" TYPE-S 900W SUBWOOFER (~$200)

wiring kit: 4 ga kit (~$50)

Thoughts?

Wiring kits can be had for pretty cheap... I mean you can always spend more, but I see no need to.

If you are limited on room why not do 10's? 200$ is to much for S's..

Get a mono amp. Will be less money, and you probably aren't running your subs on seperate channels?

I like the sound of 12's. They hit lower.

Which do you guys think is a better SQ sub... 12" Kicker CVR or the Alpine Type S? I'm really going for nice clean sound. Budget for subs are

wrong..........12"s do not hit lower than 10"s. its probably a tuning issue with the boxes you've had

i was actually doing some research on the cerwin vegas. those look good! and from a lot of reviews, the SQ of those subs are excellent for the money. i might go with those.

what do you guys think about the Profile AP2000? It's pretty good for the price. And from research, it's the best budget amp. It would be more than enough to power the CV's... and it's pretty good on the price.
