Help me decide on a good SQ/SPL sub for my rig!

Thanks all for your opinions. I have chatted with a few buddies that are somewhat still into the car audio stuff as well as a few installers and I think I will go with the RE SE 12 actually. I have been going back through many posts on these things and the general consensus is that they are pretty dang awesome for the cost. I am also considering changing up my build and going back to an oldschool MDF box.

Couple reasons for the switch to MDF:

1. I live in an area that has a tendency to have extreme climate changes from time to time, I have heard that fiberglass enclosures can be cranky with things like that? They can also flex more and generally be more sensitive to damage? (Tell me if I am wrong here)

2. Cost. I am certain I can halve my cost of install if I go with the MDF route. After this install I am starting to save for some more go fast parts for my rig, if I can lower this cost and be happy it gets me farther for the other toys.

3. Ability to remove the box. I have a Great Dane that occasionally goes out for rides with me. If I go the fiberglass route I will have to worry about it getting beat up. With the MDF box I can just remove it. I have already worked on some quick disconnect fasteners that have locks so it will be secured.

Now the final question with these changes and an actual choice of sub...sealed or ported using the JL 500/1 amp??? Since I will be able to remove it I can sacrifice some room and go ported if I like.

I would think the same will be true about MDF, it just tiny fiber particles with a binder? I think you will have to treat your MDF box as well. If it were not for cost, you might consider marine grade plywood.

Im absolutley shocked noone mentioned the new SI MAG! Its Reccomended for 1 cuft. and is supposed to sound awesome off that power. The MAG gets my vote.

Just be very careful with the RE sub because if you need to send it in for warranty you pretty much better off throwing it away. RE Audio/US Amps have the absolute most horrible warranty customer service on the planet earth. My XT US Amps sat with them for almost 3 months until i got it back only to find out it was not fixed properly. I was promised a brand new amp the sencond time around only to get back a 2ch when i had sent them a 4ch and no it was not brand new like promised. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif
