So I feel like a complete newb posting this but I cant figure this out. Well last night i hooked up my amp and that was it nothing happened except the smell of burning electronics. This morning hook up my back up amp and it works for a few minutes and while messing with the crossover it starts smoking and now its done for. My setup is 2 skar audio 10's wired for 2 ohm each and knukonceptz 4 gauge all the way back to the amp. The first amp was a massive nx5 and the second avionixx avx-1200.2. Any help would be appreciated cause I am lost.

did your first two amps fry as well? if so, then i would say something is wrong with your subs. how are they wired - in series or in parallel?

next, where is your grounding point for the amp? did you find a piece of solid bare metal, sand it down, and ground there?

for power, did you wire a fuse in between the battery and amplifier? if you have a DMM you can check that the amp is getting 12-14V from the battery. also make sure your power/ground wires arent reversed on the amp.

for settings on the amp, start with the gain all the way down, bass boost all the way down, and low pass filter around 60hz (or somewhere in the middle if it isn't marked). then make sure your speaker outputs arent shorted. this can again be done with a DMM by ensuring there is no continuity between the +/- terminals.

try these things and then post back with any findings.

Well I pulled the subs and found one that smelled bad and the cone was hard to push. The other sub is fine. They were wired in parallel on both amps. Tried another amp with just the good sub and everything was fine. I have been installing stereos for awhile and never had anything like this happen. So does anyone work on old avionixx amps?

Is that Avionixx a Tripath chip amplifier? Chances are if it is then it is toast as you cannot get those parts anymore. Take the bottom cover off and look maybe take a few photos and post them up.
