Two days ago I was driving with my subs turned up pretty loud and they started cutting out with the music. At first I just thought that my amp over-heated(it was about 95-100 degrees outside and i don't have a fan) so i turned them off and let them sit overnight. The next day I went out to check them to see if they worked and they didn't play anything. I just recently installed a Pioneer DEH-7600MP and I checked all of the connections in the back and they were good, the amp (RF punch 400s) is getting power b/c the led is on but I can't tell if the subs are messing up or the amp is. This morning they kicked in for about 3 seconds and then cut out again and that was it. I have checked all of the wiring and everything is good. I need bass!! somebody please give me some ideas! Thanks

I checked the fuse in the engine compartmant and it appeared fine. I am pretty sure the amp is coming on because the red power light comes on. I have not yet checked the speaker terminal voltage.

Does music play? Check all wiring, fuses on the amp, cd receiver, battery, power cable, check ground, etc. You'll soon find your problem. Look around/inside your box for loose wires and everywhere else.

I have already opened up my sub box and everything appeared connected. The amp is refurbished (yes, i know im cheap) so maybe that could have something to do with it. Another idea I thought of is because it messed up on such a hot day maybe the automatic shut-off over-heating protector thing(can't think of the name) shut the amp off and won't let it back on except for very short bursts before shutting off again. I am just throwing out ideas so if anybody else has any I would be very grateful to hear them.

My music played for one very short burst this morning so everything has to be wired correctly ( i played it while the car was not even moving and the engine was turned off so no wires could be vibrating loose) I also checked my ground and that was good. All of the wires are secure in the amp and to the battery. I think I have narrowed it down to either the amp or the new HU but I still don't know which one or if im even right.

like big wheel said - try hooking up a different pair of subs quick to your amp to make sure they work. If they don't you've solved it to be the amp (that is if the head unit still works) I'm guessing something got too hot in the amp and just fried. Same thing happened to my friends amp and we had to scrap it.

Just a FYI.

Even though a fuse may look perfectly good I have had them go bad and cause similar problems. Check the resistance of the fuse and make sure that they are really good.
