I have a 400w RMS Memphis Bass Reference 12" and the amplifier is a BOSS audio 1100w amp (or so they say) but after I bought it, I read that it's just a 30 amp fuse and so when the math is done is comes out to 360 w plus the power from the alternator blah blah, it's like 432w RMS, then when you factor in lost efficiency for cooling and wiring, it's really closer to like 150 to 200w RMS. I didn't know any of this until after it's all been hooked up, and now I've been trying to tune it to get it right, but I've run into some issues.
1) bass won't hit on the higher frequencies. How do I fix that? Will turning up the LP frequency Hz damage the speaker?
2) I think I've noticed distortion, but I can't tell if it's just rattling in my trunk or back window from the power of the sub? If it is distortion, is it because it is underpowered? Because it hits really hard still and the gain is set to less than halfway on the dial. So I fear, is the distortion coming from being underpowered, overpowered, what is causing this?
3) If it is truly distortion, could it blow? I've spent a lot of money to hook up this system and it would be a shame if it blew after a few days.
4) Finally, what am I missing? How do I set the gain properly to achieve the right power, without having distortion, while hitting the correct range at the same time? I don't want it to be too loud where it rattles my back window or trunk but I fear if I turn the gain down, it will affect the RMS and underpower it, again afraid it will blow.
