Help Converting Files....

Need help if possible. I want to backup DVDs to my harddrive in AVI or Xvid format. Ive done all the net searching and found several different ways but I'm looking for the easiest way.

I have dvd decrypter, dvd shrink, nero. I saved one with shrink but the best it could do was 3.xx GB. I know we can get it in one file and at or under 1 GB.

What can you do to help? Thanks
