Help choosing stereo for 1988 Mustang

Looking to install a good sounding stereo in my Mustang.

First of all, I would like to run 6 speakers. Wondering if there is a 6-channel in-dash head unit available to power them, or if I would be better off with a set of components in the door/dash with a regular 4-channel head unit? I think I would like to have at least a 2-way speaker in the dash, as a tweeter alone might sound too tinny up there by itself.

Second, I would like to match up the speakers.

What speakers and head unit would you guys recommend, for a budget of ~$500?

Front dash 3.5"

Front door 5.25"

Rear deck 5x7" but 6x8's apparently fit

Thanks.

Will sound better then any head unit out there, has channels for all speakers individually and has room for a sub output too for the future. Also puts out a solid 20 real watts of power to each speaker/tweeter. Head units cant put out more then 12 watts no matter what the brand of head unit. Takes some time to tune properly but its very doable and the results are extremely well worth it. Your stock speakers will sound like SQ monsters afterwards, no need to switch out the speakers, the DSP will make that big of a difference alone.

However, if you need a new head unit with modern day features, then go with alpine 147/148/149 bt, clarion cz702, kenwood x998 or pioneer 80 prs. Have the 3.5 and rear deck speakers on head unit power and get a 2 channel amp along with a set of 5.25 component speakers on your front doors. Place the tweeter on axis on the sail panel or off axis on the A pillars. So only need to buy headunit, front 5.25 component speakers, and 2 channel amp. Leave the rest because they are not needed for sound quality.

First option will still sound better then option 2
