Help choosing speakers

I am running this headunit:

And I am stuck between JL Audio TR's and Alpine Type R's (5x7/6x8)

They will be unamplified.

Which would be the better bet for the money since they are unamplified?

Recommendations would be awesome in that price range also.

Also there are no dubs at the moment.

Well, if money is your limiting factor, for the same money as a pair of Alpine Type R's from Crutchfield, from another source you can get some Phoenix Gold RSd65cs's and a Profile amp, about $180 total. It will sound 10x better than even the best speakers running without an amp.

Not sure about the Rangers, but I have 4x6's in my focus from the factory and had adaptor plates from Memphis to fit 5 and halfs with a 1" tweeter. Now I bought those PG Rsd's 6.5's and having MDF Rings made for it.

if your not going to amp them then i would just go with some nice low powered coax's like some infinity reference or similar. check ebay for them you can usually pick them up cheap. i have a nice set of eclipse 6.5 in three ways i will sell ya for 35 bux shipped.

You could use a bracket like this:

But it would probably be better to make something similar out of MDF. This will let you drop in 5.25" round speakers no problem. To put in 6.5" speakers, there might be a little extra work, hard to say.
