Well im an idiot. I read the "how to choose a fuse" thread or whatever its called and learned some, but not specicifc to my situation, naturally. Well i have a hifonics 1606d, and the fuse rating on the amp is 80a x 2. I will be usinf 4 guage wire for it and accoring to the 12 volt chart, it can transfer 150 amps. Would i be okay with a 150 amp fuse, considering the amp most likely wont be drawing 160 amps regularly?

Thanks

Well the amp rating is 160. Would i be able to go any lower than 150?
Sure - the only time your amp is going to approach 160A for any extended period of time would be if you were burping test tones. With music it might sniff max current for fractions of a second at a time, but an ANL fuse can handle 20-30% more than rated current for several minutes at a time. All a lower current fuse would do is increase your safety factor a bit. I would think you could run as small as a 125A with no negative effects at all.

Sweet. Thanks for the information. I think im going to use 2 guage wire considering the amp will put out close to 1600 watts. The terminal only accepts 4 guage, so would trimming the wire work fine, or should i get a 0/1 guage to 4 guage converter?
