Save up and shell out the extra... you won't regret it. Those little snapshop cameras are for girly-men. The D80 can be very user friendly on automatic mode.

Yes, digital SLR's are great. Of course.

I use a Nikon D70 and a Canon EOS 30D and it makes it very difficult to step down to a compact camera. There are some times and places I just can't bring my larger cameras. The Fuji F30 is a very good camera, I believe Fuji makes the best CCD's in the market. However in the compact market, I would recommend the Canon Powershot SD800 (or IXUS-850 in the overseas market.)

It's similar to the SD600 and SD630, but much faster as far as first shot, and shot to shot time. It's got built in optical stabilization, allowing you to shoot slower shutter speed with less blur. (in less light) It has a wider lens, giving you more flexibility in shot composition. I did a fair bit of research when I settled on this camera, and am quite pleased with it for a simple point and shoot. If you can't get the 800, try for the 700, which is almost the same camera minus the larger CCD and the 800's face finding technology.

A few salesmen have told me that Canon would be the way to go...I really like the SD630 it has a 3in LCD which is a plus but I dont think it has any image stabilizer, the Fuji F30 has a nice double take feature for simultaneous pics one with flash one without, also it does have an image stabilizer, I am a big noob with Digi Cams so thats why I need help...

Can't go wrong with Canon. dSLR's are nice, but they aren't for everyone. I would really recommend that most people avoid them, unless they want to get a little more serious about shooting. I have a Canon P&S (Powershot A95), as well as 2 Canon dSLR's (10D and 20D), and they are all great cameras.

IMO, the 630 looks and feels a bit cheap. The larger screen is lower resolution, and at that, a bit soft. The 800 boasts a shorter focal length at the widest point, enabling you to get more in the shot when its sometimes impossible to back up to get more in. And finally the images from the SD800 are visibly sharper, a tribute to the image stabilization no doubt.

If you can afford it, I would go for the 800. My second choice would be the Fuji, followed by the 630/600.

SLR's for the win. My Canon Digital Rebel XT = luvs.

Other less expensive and point and shoot cameras are good though, if the budged does not allow an SLR. I would go for Canon, my sister has a 4.0 megapixel Canon point and shoot that takes amazing pictures IMHO for the money and she got it a year and a half ago for 170$

I got the SD630 and have been playing with it for the last 2 days, it seems very nice and has tons of features...Definitely worth the $255 I got it on sale for!
