Help building a new system

Hey guys i was looking for some advice on what to buy for a whole new audio system on my truck. Im pretty new to car audio. Right now im running stock speakers except for one 12" sub with i think like a 250 watt amp im not sure i didnt install it the previous owner did. The truck is a chevy silverado 2003 and i was thinking about a 1500 dollar budget. Mostly listen to rock type music if that matters. Just looking on what to buy, as far as install goes my dad used to work in the car stereo business so he ca help me with that so im just trying to figure out what im looking at. Any help is appriciated thanks a lot.

Oh and im gonna build the box for the subs so dont worry about enclosures

well i'm not that far from you ,and i can help alot.i have a 97 z71 extra cab with 4 vfl 8's under the rear seat on 2200 watts rms .i can sell what ever you need for your new system and have it shipped to your door ,full warranties also .i also have a box for 4 8's that i can sell you to if you wanna go that way .other wise you'll have to do a sealed box for 10's ,but the ported will be louder .

As far as parts go im most likely gonna get them from a shop my dad used to work at since they he can get them close to what they pay for them. Also what I want to get outa the system I'd say would be sound quality but of course I want some pretty good bass when I want to crank it. For subs I was thinking 2 10's or 2 12's, idk if 12's would be to much for the budget im trying to go for. I know you have to somewhat balence your low end stage or w/e its called with the rest. As I said before im pretty clueless on this kinda stuff.

well you'll get better equipment here ,than you will from any shop in your area ,i know most of them .i'm a db drag competitor from the bay area ,so i'm all over sacramento and the modesto valley all the time .any way 12's under that rear seat will only be in a sealed box and prefab at that ,no good,unless you wanna raise the seat then you can do 12's.so 10's or 8's will be your best option .6.5 speakers for the front doors and 4x6 speakers for the rear .you'll need an amp kit ,subs , box, speakers all around ,deck dash kit harness.please dont say your getting kicker or fosgate ,better can be had for the money .

I really dont know what I want which is why im coming here for ideas lol. So your saying 2 12's wont fit under backseat? The box I have under there now has a 12 but the sub is facing downwards idk if thats bad or not. So im guessing kicker/fosgate are just those hyped up name brands that you pay for the brand and not the quality?

pretty much on the name brands. the box thats a down fire is cool but that box is sealed ,a ported box will give better out put[louder]

yea we had a competition there 3 years ago .he didnt have much ,unless you like mainstream equipment .they dont carry dc , ascendant ,american bass or any of the other good stuff ,i may have to talk to the owner and see if he wants to be a dealer for some of these products .

Ok so what size amp should I be looking at. Im assuming go with a 4 channel and just run everything to that amp or what?

To that stereo show that would b a negative lol hes not really into any of that stuff anymore haha, tbh hes running a stock system in his car right now lol. He hasnt had his cars all decked out since I was a little kid

get a 4 channel for the inside speakers and a mono block for the subs so 100-150 rms x4 for the 4 channel and 1000 - 1500 for the subs .i can set you up with everything you'll need for your budget ,including all the wires the big 3 kit subs ,speakers ,deck,box.look at my signature thats what i'm running in my z 71 extra cab .
