Well just finished gettin my amp and subs installed. Everything looked fine and i double checked that everything was right to my knowledge. I turned my car on with all the gains and whatnot down, All of headunits setting were off except i turned subwoofer level all the way up.

Turned car on a radio station and went back to check out the amp. The "Hifonics" logo on top did not light up, but the power light was on, and none of the protect/safety lines were on. I turned the gain up some to see if i would get some sound. I got a LITTLe bit, way less then what should have come from it, but then the amp made a loud "POP" and smoke came out near the RCA jack (opposite the side of the power and ground)

any ideas? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

ttt anyone? I plugged the amplifier back in, the power light comes on, none of the protect/safety whatnot lights go one, and the HIFONICS logo never lit up from the start. Now, i get now sound to my subs and the RCA jack smokes whenver i plug something into it. And whatever the popping sound was, something is loose inside the amp.

the part that has me is it has three warning lights, a protect, a safety, and an overload, which shut the amp down, and none of those went on.....

sorry bro, i had a faulty amp one time (not hifonics) glad u got a warranty, i would be pissed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

what could cause it to pop and smoke near the RCA jack tho? I mean, theres not much there to damage is there?
lol i dont think it really matters much when the amp is smokeing.....mabe a short or something, faulty RCA Jacks? just be glad you have the warranty //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I believe that the only openings on the hifonics amps are on the sides (both sides, little slots). So, it doesn't really matter that much where it came out.

What does the amp do now when you try to turn it on?

it powers up. after the incident i took it back out and wired it up just as it was before. the power light came on, NONE of the warning lights (protect, overload, or safety) came on, and the HIFONICS logo on top NEVER came on altogether. Seeing that it powered up fine and everything, i plugged the RCA's in, and the amp began to smoke after a few seconds, so its something to do with the RCA's im assuming

*sigh*, i hope this warranty crap goes through okay.

i guess the day wasnt totally bad tho. This morning i got accepted to Washington State University and they gave me a $5000 dollar scholarship. Maybe the faulty amp was something ot balance the day out eh?
