Hey guys i just bought 2 alpine type r subs and a jbl600.1 amp to power them (i know ill get more power later when i get the money) I am building the box and am looking to build a seperate lil compartment thing (maybe a drawer) to put the amp in. Nobody i know has a drawer like that n i think it would be pretty cooland myuncle is a carpenter so it shouldbe no prob. But ne ways i need to know how much ventilaztion space this amp needs or if it needs any at all. I dont want it to get overheated or ne thing. Thanx

uh i think that amp is going to have to work hard to run those subs so it might get hot

so if you try and put in a campartment were its not getting enough air it might over heat

if i was you i would order myself an mtx 6500d used off ebay for $130, that would be a perfect match for those subs imo

The subs are 300wrms each so it is going to be giving them just enough but from what i read on here the jbl amps are a lil overrated and i would probably get around 650 wrms. But ne ways how much air space do i NEED for it not to get overheated. Ne suggestions to keep it cool?

It would help if you described the drawer a little more for us and how its going to be ventilated. It its something where the drawer will slide in and out of the sub box, and the amp will be completely enclosed inside the sub box most of the time, then you'll need to get some 12 volt DC computer fans hooked up to it and have your uncle help you with a ventilation system or the amp will probably shut off due to heat. Most amps need several inches of clearance above them for the heat to difuse. But you can put them in an enclosure if you use fans to force cooler air to flow over the top of them. 12volt fants are cheap and come in various different sizes since they're most commonly used to cool computers. You will likely need to use them if you're planning on enclosing the amplifier. If I misunderstood your design though, give us a little better picture and we'll do our best to help you out.

You want to put it in a drawer to hide it? Personaly I would just leave it out and leave it alone so it dosen't over heat. But if you insist on doing it make sure it is vented and I would put 2-4 cooling fans in there pulling air in and pushing air out.

I really have no idea how to describe to u how the drawer this ins gonna be than just sayin its gonna be under a sub floor. But when u say several inches of clearance above them is 4 inches enough? Im pretty sure the amp had a self cooling system or w/e to help it not get so hot im im thinken most amps do

k from what ive read the amp dosent have a tendancy to get hot

so you should be able to do the install you were thinking of without having a problem, but it seems like allot of work and hassle just to hide the amp
