Sooo, i am learning lots from the search. I love this site. ITS AWESOME

i have gotten further along. and i might just be starting all over. i pulled all the equipment out to fix a few things on the car. I got rid of my yellow top, and replaced it with the kinetik 1800. i tossed out the capacitors and got the kinetik 600 in their place. i read up on my alternator, wich cranks out a gigantic 55 amps so i orderd a larger VW bus alternator rated at 75 amps and had it rewound to 120amps. that should be all i will need. I am doing "the big 3" well ... kinda. Its actuallly more like the "little 3" i have no easy access to o guage wire and lots of 4g wire. So i ran everything 4g. I do not plan to push more than 120 amps across any wires in this car.

I also had the seats and center cushion recoverd. My idea was to replace all my speakers with newer stuff, and get a new head unit. What do you say about

Pioneer DEH-P98OBT in the dash

JL Audio ZR650 for the kicks

JL Audio H0112R-W7 to replace the Polk

The bass is excellent from the front trunk, the whole sound stage pounds from right in front of you. If you are looking for a drop in box for the console. check out near the bottom of the page here....

I almost cried when I seen the horrible green on all that PG goodness:verymad:It doesnt even match the car, is that a ZX250 or 350 you basterdized?and that EQ215:nono: Shame on you. I say keep the equipment and change the caps in those amps and PLEASE REPAINT THEM, there is a big demand for those oldskool amps and eq, people are even collecting the xs series. If you love the oldskool PG like I do you should browse threw the PGphorum and see what you think, no this is not a plug, Im just trying to give him another outlet for his love of PG Im new too this site and I like it

First of all, welcome, and great introduction.

Glad you got rid of the capacitors and got the Kinetiks, it's a very large improvement.

Next, your equipment. Granted, your PG equipment is GREAT old school stuff, the speakers themselves should be replaced, as you're doing it seems.

The Pioneer 980BT is a great Head Unit, you wont be disappointed in it and it also allows you to have a TON more control of everything.

The subwoofer and component choice, I'm not a huge fan.

What size woofer do you want? If you can build the box yourself, there is a ton that we can help you with including a design to make you happy as can be. There are tons of SPL or SQ oriented woofers. Let us know if you care more for Sound Quality and we can suggest better woofers for comparable pricing.

Next, the ZR Components. I've heard pretty decent things, but I've never had the first hand experience. I think that you should consider other companies such as CDT, Hybrid Audio, Seas. These companies(for a similar price) will more than likely exceed the output and quality of the JL ZR's

Also, for amplifier recommendation. Memphis Big Belle. It does 75wx4 at 4ohm and the sub channel offers 1100w RMS at 1ohm, it's one hell of an amplifier.

Good call on the Memphis MisterGrubbs, its a workhorse for sure, just make sure you have the room for the length of it, its a surfboard for sure

Figured I would update the thread a little. Pics of my new upgrade alternator. i went from 50 amps to 120 amps. and few pics of my new batteries. The larger one did not fit so well so some modification to the rain tray and battery tray was required. Now This little car is high voltage. Goodbye capacitors.

This Bad Boy was a stock 75 amp used in earlie VW busses and I had it rewound to 120 amp. It also required so modifications to fit. It was a very tight fit under there. The fan had to come off, and the pulley from my smaller unit had to be swapped onto this one to fit properly.

I have not had time to play with purchasing any new components yet. But, i found a cheap H. I. D. kit online and put it on last night. I am planning to purchase some H3 pilot driving lights to replace my stock fog lights. I can't wait to drive it tonight next i will be looking into replacing the head unit and component set. I was also tired of touching up the wheels, so i stripped them and polished them. i like this look better. Hope to update soon
