Heavyweight bottoms out?

prob mis-aligned coil. They rattle horribly at all fequencies when this happens.

You do realize you can't bottom out a HeavyWeight right? You will actually hit the spider before you bottom a heavyweight out.
What you hear is the coil hitting the sides. Unless you have a problem with the heavyweight. But a perfect heavyweight will not bottom out and if you hear a popping noise you are sending a clipped signal and your causing the coil to "coil rock" from left to right. You should have gotten the coil guide to help this problem on single spider setups.

This is what it sounds like.... its not moving far enough to bottom out. Whats a coil guide?

Definitely sounds like a misaligned coil issue if it's happening at all frequencies. Could be a shifted motor, but that'd be pretty easy to spot once you took it out of the box.

the motor looks straight and the shipping box wasnt beat up too bad so it must be a misaligned coil. How good is RD about covering their products?

its a huge box.... it ended up being about 9.5-10 ft gross and 3.5 net

LOL................ I was reading some other problems on CACO just like this, and a few educated members over there stated this to be the cause of one kids problems with his HW.... but to no avail....

The kid is a newb, so it wasnt really his fault..... just uneducated..

But a few of the members preached on how it couldnt be the box.....

TURNS OUT.... IT WAS THE BOX... almost double the port area + a poorly designed box.

your port takes up more than half the box volume. that sounds like way too much port. box is wrong for the sub sounds like to me.
