ok i have a focus svt hatchback ,and i love heavy metal music.....its been a while since i was in to car audio , i guess im old school lol...but i can admit when i am not currently up to speed on things in the car audio world , so im asking for some help.....as far as 15 inch subs go are they still only for deep bass and hip hop? back when i was into car audio i was told that 15s **** for metal that they cant keep up with the faster tighter bass notes of the music and will burn out there voice coils....have they fixxed that yet? if so what 15s can handel a sealed box and metal? or are there some 15s that will sound awsome in a ported box so when i want to put a bass track on it drops hard? ALSO what are some 15s that pound but have GREAT sq i want to be LOUD but i dont want my music to sound like *** i do play guitar and bass so i tend to be a little bit more sq than spl but i do LOVE SPL

A 15 can keep up with rock and metal. It depends on box and install, not so much the brand or model 15. I have seen an 18 that could keep up just fine but still drop. And a decent sub isn't going to blow unless your feeding way more power than its rated for, or if your clipping the amp. Any decent 15 can be found pretty cheap on here in the classifieds. Just put it in the right box with good clean power and it will be fine. Some good brands on here are Fi, Audioque, Sundown, Digital Designs(usually expensive), Cascade Designs,etc...

i would suggest this because its is the easiest way t make sure you are happy with what you are getting:

get a pair of GOOD 10's that can take a good ampunt of power and abuse. run them ported. they will keepup with the music just fine but will still slam when its time. a guy on here runs two audioque hdc3 10's and has hit a 151 and he listens to a good amount of rock. his name is likethorsmasher or something to that effect.

Gf has a 15" Q and I have 4 15" HDC's and we both listen to a lot of metal. Either set up can keep up with fast kicks no problem and have plenty of punch instead of muddy/bloated bass. It takes a lot of sub if you want impact on rock/metal, that's why I run 4 15's...

or you can run a pair of 10's and get the exact impact youre looking for and still drop low.

Single 15 has more cone area and gets my vote //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif And 2 10's will NOT have the impact I'm looking for, but possibly be enough for the OP //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'm an AQ fanboy, so HDC's get my vote. Either 2 12's or 2 15's tuned to 38-40Hz will do the trick...

What do those amps do RMS wise? If around 2k then copper coils would be fine, but if they're like 2.5k or more then I'd get aluminum coils.
