Hearing loss FTL :(

I listened louder than I do now for a few years when I was just getting into stereo systems - I think I have some damage from the tweeters in my first "serious" system. I notice that the telephone sounds noticeably different ear to ear - my tweeter was dead on axis with my right ear in that car vs. the other tweeter being way off, I always felt it a bit in my right ear but ignored it at the time.
Not too bad... my hearing is still pretty sharp, but I did take note of that when switching the phone to my other ear.
Yeaa...I've heard from older people that the higher frequencies are what go first, but I'm guessing thats just because most people that lose their hearing from things other than music lose it from higher pitched sounds like gunshots and other stuff like that

I feel like my highs sound pretty much the same as they always have

gunshot is louder than any stereo i have stuck my head into.

theres no point of having 2000 watt subs in your car anyway. If you have clean sound coming from your speakers and subs that arent painful you shouldn't suffer hearing loss. Hearing loss is either from the subs being way to powerful or the distortion coming from your speakers. So basically, limit your subs to a less painful tone, or keep your speakers from having distortion and you won't be deaf in 15 years.

Once again, anything over 100db for more than a few minutes and ur doing damage, whether you think you are or not. and how would distortion cause hearing loss? your ears don't know what distortion even is, your brain does. Someone brought up listening to purely 100% distorted tones might even find them pleasing because their brain is taught to comprehend it as pleasing, while we see it as distorted

Really? Idk how many db's they've been measured at but I've fired plenty of 9's and 40/45's and they seemed comparable to what I hear out of my subs, granted its difficult to compare the huge contrast in frequencies but still...idk

ever fire a huge rifle? like a 270? i cant hear after that. with a sub its slight discomfort then back to hearing instantly.

Ahhh yes I've heard one from like 20-30 feet away, I always just think of handguns when people takl about gunshots, definitely loud as hell, lmao when i was like 14 I made a small homemade explosive out of mostly gunpowder, enough to probably fill a shot glass >70%, it was handheld, and I was a kid...didn't realize how powerful that would be...I couldn't hear for a good half hour and then had ringing in my ears another few hours after that iirc maybe longer...and as far as my hands...well...to the say the least I should've worn some heavy duty gloves lol...I thought I lost a few fingers or somethin cuz I couldn't feel them for about 30 seconds and was too busy yelling and cussing to look down and check lmao..that was NOT fun, but its always kinda funny lookin back on it

/story time lol

I just read the first page but...

I hit 150+..... im 19, and in the past 3 years of audio, i can still hear just as well if not better than everyone in my family.

If anything, the more highs i add.... they hurt my ears worse than bass... to me, bass is soothing.. only a few times is it uncomfortable.

Im sure one day it will catch up to me, but, i cant help loud music, its like ciggarettes to some people.

So...clipping causes hearing loss too? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif:confused:

i didn't read the entire thread but i have to say i have noticed a change in my system and how acustomed i am to it. i had people in my car on saturday and one of them knew some about my system. he was bragging some and i gave everyone a demo. everyone in the back seat were jumping and yelling WTF!!! while holding their ear. me, i was just driving like nothing. though odd enough i still have good hearing.
