Headunit Skipping

I have a Pioneer Premier DEH-P880PRS and my DD9917b on a single IA 20.1 (0.5 ohm) in a box tuned around 35 hz makes it skip at about volume of 30 on the deck, 1/2 gain on bass boost knob, and 1/8 gain on actual amp. These settings are only to show off to friends when they wanna hear it, and I don't ride around with it like this. But I am building a different box tuned to the low 40s (rear fire instead of upfire) that I might use in competitions. But I would need to stop the skipping before I got into any competing.

So basically I want to know if you suffer(ed) from this problem and if you found a way to keep it from skipping, how you did it. In another thread, someone said get a lens cleaning CD and someone else said bend up more metal things //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif .

While you're at it, if you have/had this problem, list up your HU, what you were running, and if you know what you were hitting on a meter when it happened.

I have had the headunit installed for about 3 months now, but have only had the sub and amp in for two weeks. I do not think it is braced in the rear, I think it's got space behind it.

yeah, i am probably gonna get an iPod using my grad money after I get the window tinting done. I guess that's more incentive to get one. Sucks though cuz Pioneer makes us get a $30 cord. Capitalism....

i gotta get an ipod... i usually pull my head unit out and hold it when i burp... recently i've stuffed a bunch of napkins and stuff between the hu and the mount so it fits a lot more snug... pretty ghetto looking but it actually works...

anybody know what they were hitting on a TL when there stuff skips? I want to get on a meter but don't live in a hotbed of car audio enthusiasts, so I am just looking for a range of possibilities

trying to get an idea of how many dbs you're hitting by when people's hu's start skipping is quite... retarded ( i couldn't think of any other word for it sorry).

skipping depends on make/model, quality of installation, dash position, ect ect... vibration of the cd player causes skipping, and that in no way relates to sound pressure...

well my hu would skip pretty bad with my 12s and they registered 147 in the kick on the TL... it had a lot to do with the frequency of the notes playing as well. anything under 40hz really made it bounce around and skip pretty easily...

and for the record, i knew someone with a pair of wal mart 10s in his jeep that made his hu skip and he probably wasn't above 135dbs...
