Headunit loudness feature - on or off?

Here is a real newbie question - for those with loudness features on their headunits, do you always have it on or off?

I know it is intended to boost low and high frequencies for low volume listening, but is there any danger in having it on during high volume play?

I certainly don't want to damage my headunit (kenwod DDX7015)...

The Loud button is worthless, IMO. I can tune my system perfectly with only 2v preouts, high HU volume, and no loudness.

The key is to raise the HU volume up and lower the gains on your amp(s). I used to run my HU at 40/62. Turned it up to 55/62, reset my gains, and both my amps are a LOT happier.

If you like it at low volume there's no reason not to use it. It shouldn't be a factor above 1/2 volume or so assuming your gains are set relative to something approaching full HU volume -- as Ultimate mentioned.

I don't use it ever. If you set your gains accordingly, not only will your amps love you long time, but the rest of your system will too.

I have never, and will never use the loudness feature. It's a great way to add distortion, especially at high volumes.
