headunit / insurance question

My car was recently broken into and along with other things my headunit was stolen. The headunit was an alpine CDA-9852, nothing special, the first headunt I ever bought. Anyway with my insurance (USAA) I go to a store that they designate (BB, CC, etc) and tell them what headunit I had and they give me the same one or a comparable one. So I believe the comparable model would be the 9883, is this correct? If so is this a good headunit? I was looking to actually upgrade to something better if they just sent me a check but I dont know if I can now. Does anyone know if I can take the one they would give me and pay the extra to get a better headunit? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

what i would do is .. Get the HU that they give u .. then Sell it to a member on this website and then buy a HU u want

u should be able to pay the diff. Allstate allowed me to do this, but dif . ins. companies have dif. policies I'm sure. You should just receive a check in the mail for the lose and do what you want with it.

send the mspr price and just pay the diference for a better hu, pretty good insurance (gov)

take your check for the head unit and mounting kit etc... anything else they broke or cut when they broke into the car... get the check for msrp.... then jump on ebay and buy whatever or on here and buy whatever... itll be a waste if you want to upgrade to let them toss in whatever adn then take it out to sell it as you wont get near what you would from insurance...
