headunit doesn't turn on

hey everyone. my friend and i were installing his panasonic deck and we have the battery wire to the positive of the battery. Then we grounded it and for a 12 volt power switch it's connected to a cigarette lighter that we dont even know if it works. when we start the car and push power on the deck it wont turn on. is it because the cigarette lighter doesnt work

There is and it has three wires on a small type of harness. its a 64 impala so its a little tricky

two of the wires are stuck together if that helps. the other is black so is it ground? and the two stuck together are a green one and another is green and black

i understand, old school! lol, yeah if your cigarrete lighter doesnt work maybe check its fuse, and if thats good and it still doesnt work, change its location. also make sure you have an antenna hooked up because that is also used as a ground.

nope its out of the box so it's never been installed before. will the headunit turn on without the 12 volts that are sent to it when the car starts. like manually pushing power

no it wont, but you can take the wire that you connected to the cigarrette lighter and connect it to the wire straight form the battery to make sure it works. but dont leave it like that because then you cd player will never turn of. you need to find another switched 12 volt source. also check y0ou cig. lighter fuse to make sure its not blown.

THANKS! we did the 12 volt wire to the battery wire and it turned on! yeah his cars complicated because the stereos back then were set up so different. thanks black bonnie
