Headunit doesnt play music

AW SHIT, in my old car there was a factory amp..thats why it didnt work. and i had it hooked up through there, and on my new car i did disconnected the factory amp... and i have a alpine tape player in their and it works.. HAHA thanks man i believe you have solved the puzzle

I have a 96' 240 sx, and I have a problem with my headunit. I installed my headunit, and it turns on and plays cd's and everything, but no sound comes out. I can't figure out what is wrong. I know that my speakers are wired right. Could some of my wires be messed up or something?

Most of the time this problem is caused by a grounded speaker wire. One of the connections at the speaker terminal may have come loose and touched metal; or you might have put a screw through a speaker wire or pinched it against a metal edge. One grounded speaker wire will kill the sound to all the speakers.

If you have a multimeter with a continuity function, put one test lead on chassis ground and probe each of your speaker wires with the other. (Disconnect the wires from the head unit first). If you find a wire with continuity to chassis ground, then that's the cause of the problem.

Another thing you can try is to disconnect all the speakers from the head unit, then connect them one at a time. If the first speaker you connect doesn't work, try another. If it does work, hook the other speakers up one at a time until you find the one that shuts the sound off.

If none of your speakers work individually with the head unit, then the head unit itself is probably bad.
