Headunit & Amp

I want to run 2 amps with a headunit that only has one preout I already know that you can use a Y RCA adapter but I was wondering if instead you couldn't just link the 2 amps together by coming out of the first amp's RCA output and into the second amp's RCA input? or couldn't you just run speaker wire from say the rear speaker channel on the headunit to the amp?
